June is National Dairy Month! Check out these 2 fun projects you can do at home with your kids using dairy products! See below for the steps & ingredients.
3 Facts About Dairy Cows
1. They have 4 stomachs
2. They eat 100 lbs of feed per day when they are milking
3. They drink 50 lbs of water each day
Homemade Ice Cream
Ingredients:
1 cup half & half (or you can use 1/2 heavy cream and 1/2 whole milk)
1/4 cup salt
Ice
1.5 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp sugar
Ziploc bags (1 small, 1 large)
Steps:
Pour 1 cup of half and half into your small ziploc bag
Add 1.5 tsp of vanilla extract and 1 tbsp of sugar to the same bag
Seal the bag firmly and get as much excess air out as you can
In the large ziploc bag, fill it about 3/4 full of ice
Add 1/4 cup of salt with the ice
Then put your small bag of the milk mixture in the large ziploc and seal it
Begin shaking for about 6 minutes (you can wrap the bag with a towel since it will be really cold)
Take the small bag out of the large bag
Use a spoon to mix the ice cream around (it will be a little ice looking to start)
Scoop out and enjoy!
